In this book––call it a workbook for authors, call it a silly book to pass time––your purpose is not to make great work. Your purpose is to make. Leave the perfectionism at the door and just. write.
Including
- Image prompts – Write what the image on the page makes you feel or see.
- Dia- or monologue prompts – Use the sentence(s) and build a story around it.
- Plot prompt – Use the plot idea to write whatever comes to mind
- Layout prompt – What form to write in
So use these prompts. Go criss-cross through the book, skip pages, be crazy. Write it out on your laptop, use a notebook, or use the lined pages in this book. Get in the flow. Who knows, maybe you’ll get a short story out of it, or a poem, or maybe even an idea for an entire novel. But the point is not to be productive and create something you can sell, the point is to create for the sake of creating. Practice makes perfect, thinking about perfect doesn't. Just write – writing prompts to just write.
